One of my New Years Resolutions were to read more books.
Somewhere between motherhood, working full time, blogging, and just life I haven’t made time to read, or just plain ol’ excuses is the reason why I haven’t been reading as much as I wanted to.
This year I was able to get in a few books. I didn’t reach my goal but I really enjoyed all the books I’ve read, which I’ve posted below, and you can see in the picture above. I also posted the links below as well.
I always start the new year with this book, it’s a quick read, one you can finish in a day. This is a spiritual self help book, in seven simple steps. I’ll be starting off 2017 with this book as well.
I read “Assata’s” autobiography book, and this book was such a page turner. I could not put this book down. It was kind of a thriller to me, I wanted to know “Oh gosh, whats going to happen next”. I love autobiographies, because it gives you their story 1st hand, and what better way to get info then from the person who lived it. Assata’s story is so deep, she’s such a strong woman. If you’re a black woman living in America read this, Love this woman.
3. The Celestine Prophecy: An Adventure by James Redfield
Oh my goodness, I absolutely lovedddd this book. I could not stop talking about this book after I read it. The funny thing about this book is, I’ve had this book since my freshman year in college, and I’ve tried to read it so many times, but I could not get past the first chapter, I just felt like the knowledge was way too big for me at the time. However, like they say, timing is everything, and I’ve decided to pick up this book this year, and it was right on time. Let me tell you the gems in this book are amazing. I’m such a spiritual person, who believes in the universe being in our favor if we practice positivity , and faith, and also, everything that happens in life isn’t by accident, and this book covers all that and more. This is one of my favorite books of ALL time.
4. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
I’ve heard so many great things about this book. My best friend has been telling me about this book for years, and I cannot believe I just read it for the first time this year. This is another spiritual book, clearly you get the subject of books I like. I literally finished this book in a day, I love spiritual books that are in guideline form, but i also love the story format, and this one is in a story form, it basically about living out your personal legend .
5. #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso
Another good read was #GIRLBOSS, this book is everything you would assume with a title like GIRLBOSS. Sophia Amoruso, who is also the founder of the online store NastyGal. Her journey wasn’t easy, but she didn’t let it stop her, she shows how hard work pays off. She also shows how it’s okay to not know anything, but it’s important to learn from your mistakes. Another great read.
6. Be You Live Civil by Karen Civil
Some of you may already know Karen Civil, and for those of you who don’t, she is what everyone calls he media maven, she has used the internet to her advantage. This short book is filled with tips, on unlocking your potential and living your purpose.
7. Through these eyes by Bundle of Joy Love
I’m usually not a big fan of poems, I usually just like straight forward information, but this book which is full of poems, are straightforward, and some of them are very relatable. I feel like this book is for everyone, everyone can relate someway or another.
8. The autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley
I mean this one is self explanatory as I why i love it. EVERYONE should read this book. Embarrassingly enough this was my first time reading this book, although it is super long it’s such a great read, the stories those guy has had is crazy, this is one man who knew what he stood for, and was not leaving his people behind. Read this one if you haven’t
i loved all these books I’ve read, I learned something new from each book. What books have you read, and what should i add to my list of 2017 books?
