Mommy Medicine

August 10, 2020 | Leave a Comment

Sometimes all we need is a little mommy medicine. No matter how old you are, nothing is better than some ‘Mommy Medicine’. I don’t know about you but I still call my mother everyday, for advice, for reassurance, when I’m sick, yup pretty much for everything. A mothers Job really is never done, even when you’re grown!

“Mommy Medicine” by Edwidge Danticat is another one of Lala’s favorites. If you don’t have it you should definitely add to you bookshelf!

How many of you still need some of that ‘Mommy Medicine’?

Princess Hair

August 4, 2020 | Leave a Comment

Hello Fam

I hope you all had a great start to your new week. I was stopping by to ask you all what kid books are you all reading to your kiddies? Also, will you all be interested in me posting what books we’re reading?

Last night while reading Lala one of her favorites “Princess Hair” I said you know how many little girls can benefit from reading this book.

Lala has always gone to school with girls whose hair looks a lot different than her, so I make it my due diligence to teach her to love her hair just the way that it is. She has came home and told me stories about this one not liking her hair, and no lie her responses are epic. Y’all remember that time one of Lala’s classmates said he didn’t like her hair (Kids are so damn rude), and she said “well I don’t care if you don’t like it, because I like it” I swear Lala really makes this parenting thing, such a great experience. Can’t wait till I retell her all these stories.

Sometimes she would tell me that she wants her hair like this one, and I’d stop her right in her tracks; “Who are you”, and ” who are they”, “you can only be you”. One time she said she wanted her hair like Rapuzels, i said “well too bad Rapunzel can’t braid her hair so beautifully like yours, If I were Rapunzel I’d want my hair like yours”. One tip about raising kids; you have to get creative lol, because they’ll keep you on your toes, and you gotta think quick.

I say all of this to say lets teach our black daughters to love themselves, as well as their hair, this book “Princess Hair” by Sharee Miller can help you with that too.

Have you all had any similar stories? I wanna hear?

What we’re reading, April 2017

April 10, 2017 | 1 Comment

Remember a few month’s ago, I posted a blog talking about the books i’ve read, and that my plan was to read at least one book a month. Well it’s April and I am on book number 4.

Although I haven’t always been an avid reader, I’ve really been enjoying it these past few years, and a lot more this past year.

However, I always made sure I read to Alani. I read to her at least once a day, usually at bedtime. Her preferred books are Goodnight Daddy, and Goodnight Mommy (every single night might I add), but I always try to squeeze a new book. I believe reading is so crucial for our babies and toddlers, as it builds up their vocabulary, their imagination and much more. Alani is talking more than ever, and her pretend play is out of this world. So parents read to the little ones as much as possible.

I say all of that to say this; Right now we are reading

Me: The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander

Alani: Amongst Goodnight Daddy, and Goodnight Mommy, she’s currently reading I Like Myself, which is also an old favorite.

–Knowledge is wealth

Alani’s November Favorites

November 3, 2016 | 2 Comments

Alani really loves reading at nighttime, she literally knows after bedtime is reading time, unless she’s super tired and knocks out right out the bath.

For the past few weeks we’ve had the same books in rotation. Good Night Daddy and Good Night Mommy, Alani literally doesn’t want to read one without reading the other, how sweet of her right?! Both of these books are so beautiful, it’s about children spending their entire day with their parent, from breakfast, enjoying adventures together, and ending the day reading a bedtime story, and saying “Good Night Daddy” “Good Night Mommy”; we love it.

We also recently added “I Love you Americanly” to our night time reads for the past couple of weeks. I absolutely love this book, and how it shows you the beautiful things about America. I absolutely love all of Melanie Hope Greenberg’s illustrations, what I love the most is that there’s always so much culture diversity. While reading this book to Alani, it made me add a few places to our list to visit.

I recommend all three of these books, also check out Mealnie Hope Greenberg other books. I really like “Mermaids on Parade” on her website here.

Here’s a list of Alani’s current favorites, and links if you want to buy them for your little ones.

  1. “Good Night Daddy” By: Adam Gamble, and Mark Jasper
  2. “Good Night Mommy” Adam Gamble, and Mark Jasper
  3. “I Love You Americanly” By: Lynn Parrish Sutton Illustrated by: Melanie Hope Greenberg

Alani’s Favorites

July 25, 2016 | 2 Comments

I know, I know it’s been extremely quiet over here on the blog, but sometimes that happens. Right now I just don’t have the inspiration to post, perhaps we need to get out a little more, hence that’s where I get most of my inspiration, but don’t worry we won’t be quiet for too long.

Anywho, I can’t wait to see all of you fabulous mommies, and kiddies this weekend for the children’s sing along. If you still need information please feel free to comment below or email me at Lovedemitrablog@gmail.com

Also, I wanted to share some of Alani’s favorite
books this month, I have added the links below if you wish to purchase them.

I know I’ve blogged about Brown bear, Brown bear (Here), and First 100 words (Here), but baby girl really cannot get enough of these two.

Every night, well almost every night, I tell Alani to get a book from her bookshelf to read, and EVERY single night she picks up “First 100 words”, and a lot of other nights alongside that she picks up “Brown Bear, Brown Bear”

First 100 Words by Roger Priddy is my absolute favorite right now, especially since Alani is saying a lot more words now, this books is great for reference of words to picture. I’m also loving the”One Red Sun” by Ezra Jack Keats. I’m a big fan of all of Keats books, so that’s a given, but this counting one is great for children who are learning to count. If your child doesn’t have these yet, be sure to add them to their growing library.

“First 100 words” by Roger Priddy

“Brown Bear, Brown Bear” by Bill Martin

“One Red Sun, A Counting Book” by Ezra Jack Keats

I hope the kiddies enjoy these books, if they don’t already have them. What are your children’s favorite these days?

Thanks for stopping by, have a great week!!!
