Mommy Diaries
Remember a few month’s ago, I posted a blog talking about the books i’ve read, and that my plan was to read at least one book a month. Well it’s April and I am on book number 4.
Although I haven’t always been an avid reader, I’ve really been enjoying it these past few years, and a lot more this past year.
However, I always made sure I read to Alani. I read to her at least once a day, usually at bedtime. Her preferred books are Goodnight Daddy, and Goodnight Mommy (every single night might I add), but I always try to squeeze a new book. I believe reading is so crucial for our babies and toddlers, as it builds up their vocabulary, their imagination and much more. Alani is talking more than ever, and her pretend play is out of this world. So parents read to the little ones as much as possible.
I say all of that to say this; Right now we are reading
Me: The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander
Alani: Amongst Goodnight Daddy, and Goodnight Mommy, she’s currently reading I Like Myself, which is also an old favorite.
–Knowledge is wealth
Usually I always guilt myself when going out sans baby. Because I am a working mom, I feel like my free time has to be spent with Alani, because I’m away from her majority of the day. Everyone tells me how important me time is and I’ve been working on it. Plus, this weekend with all the crying and whining it definitely verified why me time is needed, because it can really drive you up a wall.
So here’s to me time, every now and again. And to all the mommies out there guilt tripping themselves from going out, go!!! because a Happy Mommy makes a Happy Baby!

I don’t think I’ve ever spoke about this on my blog, but Madison Alani’s Bff, and my niece was born 6 and a half weeks early.
At the time of Maddie’s birth I can only imagine how terrifying it was to go through preterm labor, and then have to leave your newborn baby in NICU for 10 days. The strong person Omi is pushed through, and kept a brave face. She also did everything to make sure Maddie reached her milestones; and above.
Today Maddie is so vibrant and full of life, and for Maddie, and Babies like Maddie we are participating in the March of Dimes walk on April 30th 2017, with the Allen family. So please join us all, and you can also help Madison raise donations for March of Dimes to advance medicine and research towards healthy babies and moms, like Madison, and Naomi.
