Children’s Museum of Manhattan

November 9, 2015 | 4 Comments

Okay, so Sekou and I agree that we are starting our museum journey. We want to visit all of the most famous museums in NYC. We have a few under our belt, but there’s a lot more on the list. We’ll be visiting all of the great ones all over the world as well (I’m speaking it into existence right here on this blog).

Anyway, yesterday we woke up and said okay what’s on the agenda, and decided the Children’s Museum of Manhattan would be our first stop.

The Children’s Museum Of Manhattan was AMAZING. If you’re reading this and you have kids you have to take them there. It’s really like the equivalent of what the MET would be for adults. Sekou and I love the MET and have been there on several occasions.

Back to the CMOM; there are 5 floors full of excitement. Alani really had a great time, and so did I, she had me crawling in tunnels, going on slides about 10 times back to back (no exaggeration), [Read more…]

Do mommies get sick days?!

November 4, 2015 | Leave a Comment

DSC_0432

If Alani has ever tested my patience it was this past weekend.

If I were ever asked who were the top three patient people I know, I’d definitely be one of the three. Alani really wanted to put that to the test.

Most of last week, and on the weekend I was sick like a dog. All I had the energy to do was sleep, but baby girl was not with it. Thanks for my mom who is always a great help; for helping me out when needed, but Alani was just extra clingy, and  extra whiney than usually, and it was really getting to me. She barely wanted to go to anyone, she just wanted to attach herself to my legs ALL day.

I remember her having an episode where she wouldn’t stop crying. She was so sleepy, and was fighting nap time so hard. One minute she wanted me to pick her up, next minute she wanted me to put her down. She cried for about 15minutes straight (for a sick person, who had no energy; it felt like 60). I remember speaking to the man upstairs like give me the strength and the energy, because I was seconds away from having an episode with her.

Finally I was able to get a 2hr nap with her, but once she got up, she was on the go and into EVERYTHING. There was a lot of “Alani don’t touch that”, “don’t climb on that”, “stop” “don’t do that”, and this was nonstop.

Now I can look back and say “I did it, and made it through”, and I know that there are going to be a lot more of these days, so wish me luck!

Do moms get sick days?!, let me know where you sign up!

Clearly Halloween was postponed around here, but that didn’t stop me from still dressing her up later, and taking pictures.

My nephews and I even got around to carving pumpkins.

On another note, remember that time I went to a fundraiser for Pamela Harris who was running for Assembly in the 46th district (you can read that here) well she has officially been elected and I am super happy for her, Congratulations Pam!

You are a good mother!

October 26, 2015 | 1 Comment

Yesterday I was told that I was a good mother. Although I already know this, it’s always great hearing it from someone else.

I feel like as mothers we sometimes don’t get the credit we deserve, and you know what that’s fine. It’s okay to give yourself credit. Don’t wait on anyone to tell you you’re doing the damn thing (although it feels good hearing it from other people), but no one knows how hard we work behind close doors when eyes aren’t watching; only we do.

Everyone doesn’t get the chance to see that you missed meals being a mother, that you can’t use the bathroom in peace, or even get 5 minutes alone. Don’t get me wrong I have the biggest village behind me so if I did want those 5 minutes alone I can always get it, but the point is, as mother we all sacrifice something for our littles.

So don’t wait for someone else to give you credit, give yourself credit and applaud yourself!

And if you need to hear it from someone else; You’re a great mother!!!!

Alani is all grown up

October 20, 2015 | 1 Comment

DSC_1113

I’ve been getting real emotional these days watching Alani grow right before my eyes.

She really enjoys “reading” books to herself. She would literally grab a book and flip through the pictures, all by her little self. Stuff like that makes my heart melt into pieces.

This morning she wanted her dad to wake up, she climbed right on top of him and slapped his face a couple time (love taps), then laid right on him (this is a real story). I wish i could’ve recorded it but I was so in the moment and so in love.

Do all babies grow this fast?

Alani I love you, please stay my baby forever

-Mommy

PS. This book she’s reading is such the cutest thing, I literally sing the words every time I read it to her. Thank you glamma for her book

Over the weekend

It was so cold over the weekend here in New York.

But we made the best of it!

Looks like only indoor activities until spring time!

Celebrated my best friends birthday at Don Coqui. We heard several bad reviews, but we had a good experience.

Klarinda’s plate of food was so good, I’m still mad I didn’t order this!

We also went to a harvest fest, and had fun painting pumpkins. Clearly i’m not artistic (so don’t judge).

Have a great week everyone!
