The MET

Last week during our week long birthday celebration, we took a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Everyone always asks if Alani really enjoys the museums or why do we bring her, if she’s not going to understand.

To answer that she really does enjoy museums, she’s at this stage where she’s imitating everything, and she does a lot of imitating mommy and daddy while at the museums. Such as pointing, and talking, “reading” the museum labels lol, and telling mommy and daddy to come and see “this” as some of you’ve seen on my snapchat.

Now you tell me if that isn’t enjoyment.

Anywho, back to the museum; I’ve been to this museum a couple of  times, once with friends, and once with Sekou (Pre Alani), and I have yet to see the entire museum, we only had 1 hour to tour this time, that’s because this mommy is the slowest mommy ever, and getting out of the house with a toddler is just a task in and of itself.

I definitely have to make it back, and explore the rest. I am so upset that we didn’t see the Pyscho Barn, or the Manux X Machina exhibits. However, my absolute favorite section was The Charles Engelhard Court in The American Wing. Omgoodness this wing is so beautiful, I walked in and it instantly gave me butterflies. It’s absolutely breathtaking. Just google it you’ll see. If you make it to the MET you have to make sure to check it out.

Here are some pictures from our visit. [Read more…]

Our 4th of July Weekend

July 11, 2016 | Leave a Comment

Last week was the Fourth of July, which meant we had a 3 day weekend.

Sekou has been wanting to visit the New Museum, so we decided to make an impromptu family date there.

Both of us didn’t think to go on our phones for 2 minutes and look at what exhibits were on display, so upon arrival we were told that there were only 2 exhibits opened. I hate going to museums and not getting the full experience, but family dates are always great so it’s still a win.

I felt like since we couldn’t get the full experience we had to find another museum to go to, and to our surprise, the International Center of Photography museum was right across the street. Unfortunately I still wasn’t completely satisfied, as much as I love taking pictures there so much more to photography, and perhaps, I just don’t understand most of it.

Before we drove off to head back to Brooklyn we noticed the Soho Contemporary Art Gallery , and [Read more…]

Our trip to the Cooper Hewitt

May 31, 2016 | 3 Comments

Thank goodness for this three day weekend we had, because I know for most like myself it was well needed, with a couple of extra days needed lol.

We started our weekend with our regular schedule of Saturday swimming lessons, then a trip to the Cooper Hewitt, a family BBQ, and a graduation celebration; Congratulations Dr. Danya. Overall this was a successful one.

Like I said above  the Cooper Hewitt was crossed off of our list of museums to visit. Although this isn’t my top favorite, it is still a great visit. I wish the lighting in there was better, because not being able to use flash and bad lighting calls for not so great pictures, blah.

Anywho, spending the weekend with my little family always makes my heart warm, and I cherish every moment of it. I wish we can have three day weekends every week, because 5 day work weeks, with 2 day weekends just isn’t fair.

How did you all spend you Memorial weekend?

Lovedemitra’s 2nd Mommy & Me group meet up

May 17, 2016 | 1 Comment

DSC_0210

Lovedemitra’s 2nd Mommy & Me group meet up was a success.

First and foremost I want to thank the Brooklyn Children’s Museum for sponsoring admission for my Mommy group. It was a great experience.

The honest truth is, I’ve never been to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. It’s quite embarrassing, being that I was born and raised in Brooklyn. However, it’s never too late, and I’m glad my daughter and I got to experience a first together, and this experience was a good one.

I love how the museum has different stations (exhibits), such as the totally tots, where the kids were able to play and explore their senses through water, sand, music and much more. Most of the kids were obsessed with the slide that’s in there. I loved the totally tots exhibit, if you stayed in that one exhibit all day , I think your child would have a blast. The other exhibit that I love is the World Brooklyn exhibit, with all the different local shops. It’s funny to see your child imitating you when you’re in the stores shopping. These kids are ALWAYS watching and just waiting for their chance to play “Mommy” it hilarious, but even cuter to see. They were grabbing their carts, and baskets, putting their items in them, and taking it to the cashier. It’s so amazing seeing how independent and careless they are. They usually start off by observing, and then walking around and exploring, all on their own.

I think all the kids enjoyed the grocery store the most. Even the older kids enjoyed it. Some were playing cashier, while others were playing customers. too bad I wasn’t able to capture that moment, because the mommies were busy having Mommy conversations. That’s one of the best parts during the mommy group, that I enjoy. Being able to have adult conversation with other mother’s like you, sharing stories, giving advice. I feel like I always leave learning something new, about new places to take LaLa, or new things you can do, such as make your own wipes (yes one of my friends makes her own wipes, maybe she can do a tutorial for you guys :)). I’m just so inspired by all the moms that were there, whether you’re a stay at home mom, bussing your ass all day cleaning, feeding, playing, teaching your child, and you can’t forget, dealing with the tantrums, and cries too; or whether you’re a single mom doing it by yourself, working full time, and still managing to be supermom when you get home. All of your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed here. Keep up the great work, if no one is rooting for you I am.

Thank you again to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum all the mommies and their children had a blast.

If you haven’t already, make sure you visit the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, your child would love it. They’re opened from Tuesday to Sunday, you can receive more information, and plan your visit here.

Funfact: Did you know that the Brooklyn Children’s Museum is the first Children’s Museum in America? Some are even saying it’s the 1st in the world.

Another reason why the Brooklyn Children’s Museum should be on the list of places to take your child.

Have you ever been to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum? if so how was you experience?

Thank you to all of you supermoms who made it to this meet up, Love you guys.

-Love Demitra

Our trip to the Brooklyn Museum

May 2, 2016 | Leave a Comment

DSC_0920

Last week I took some well needed days off of work, and used that time to spend with my daughter and nephews.

We were able to visit a couple museums; the American Museum of Natural History (you can see those pictures here), we also made it to the Brooklyn Museum.

I’ve been to the Brooklyn Museum on many occasions, but I haven’t been there in a while, and they have fixed it up so nicely. If you live in Brooklyn, and have never been to the Brooklyn Museum, be sure to put it on your to do list, you won’t be disappointed.

My nephews and daughter were in tow, my eldest nephew enjoyed, teaching me things I didn’t even know about Egyptian art. My youngest nephew was ready to leave after the first 30 minutes lol. Babygirl slept most of the time we were there, so I was really able to take my time, and explore everything in it’s entirety.

My favorite exhibits were the Stephen Power; Coney Island is Still Dreamland (To a Seagull), and of course the agitprop exhibit (which is the combination of agitation, and propaganda). I absolutely LOVE the agitprop exhibit. It’s an exhibit that displays tons of feminist art, and I love that, because I’ve never seen an exhibit solely dedicated to feminist supporters, I barely see feminist artist works at most of the museums I’ve been too, or even art created by women (there are some but not a lot), most of the museums I’ve been to focus on male artist, and there are a lot of women artist who I am a fan of, whose works should be displayed.  Hopefully that will change soon.

Anywho, be sure to visit the Brooklyn Museum, and the agitprop exhibit located on the 4th floor.

Here are some pictures from our visit. [Read more…]
